ABOUT DR. O'SHEA

I grew up in the Sierra Nevada foothills and eventually returned to raise a family.  Between those bookends, I completed a BA in Women's Studies and Psychology from UC Santa Cruz and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Montana.  I am trained as a scientist-practitioner and taught college-level psychology and gender studies classes for nearly two decades. Additionally, I have provided community behavioral health services for over 25 years, including extensive work with survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence, as well as people who were formerly incarcerated.

More recently, I have developed an interest in the overlap between mental health and finances.  It astounds me that Americans as a group continuously identify money as one of the greatest stressors in their lives, yet it is a topic that rarely comes up in therapy.  As a financial therapist, I draw on the latest peer-reviewed studies to help clients untangle feelings of shame and worry that so often accompany the too-often ignored topic of money.

Through my training as a researcher and my work as a therapist and educator, I have seen that kindness and support go a long way in helping people feel better; I have also witnessed the dramatic relief that individuals experience when they are treated with the correct therapy.  It is my goal to combine human warmth and scientific data to give you the most effective therapeutic experience possible.

I have elected to build a private practice that does not rely primarily on insurance company approval and regulation to operate.  I bill at an individual rate of $155 to 200 per 50-minute session. Payment (cash, check, FSA/HSA, Zelle, Venmo, or credit card) is required at the time of service. I am happy to offer an invoice to share with your insurance company, but it will be up to you to determine whether they will provide you with reimbursement.

I currently accept Medicare Part B for individual and group therapy sessions.  To confirm that you are covered, please look for "Entitled to Medical (Part B)" on the front of your Medicare Health Insurance Card. â€‹

I also partner with Mentaya, a company that assists patients in using PPO out-of-network benefits from select insurance companies. If you choose to work through them, they will verify your benefits, correspond with your insurance company, and submit claims on your behalf. Click on this link and enter your insurance info to see your coverage.  You may also contact Mentaya’s customer service directly at support@mentaya.com .

Note: As a psychologist, I provide "talk therapy."  If you are seeking medication, please speak with a psychiatrist or your general practitioner.
